I lean mostly libertarian. I own firearms, I support the ownership of firearms. I am not one of these people who screams about the constitution but I do understand why the 2nd amendment is there it’s a check on the federal government. Granted at the time most people had fire arms anyway so we have to conclude that the language isn’t there to state the obvious, you needed fire arms to survive. So here we are in 2019, we’ve had multiple mass shootings. I mean the Sandy Hook shootings were horrific. If we didn’t do gun control then, we never are.
So I saw a story that bothered me, a woman was murdered, the suspect her soon to be ex-husband was quoted as saying ‘I guess I don’t have to worry about a divorce now’. So he killed her, why? Yes the police found fire arms, but here is the part of the story that is troublesome.
Man charged with wife’s murder reportedly tells police, ‘I guess I don’t have to worry about a divorce now’
“They also said there was an “incident” with firearms at the home in December. “Family members said they had removed firearms from the home and the defendant after an incident in December,” the complaint read.”
So family members removed firearms from the home. First, why weren’t the cops called at that time? If fire arms were removed someone must have thought there was a threat. Someone in this woman’s life didn’t do her justice. If you know someone who is in a threatening situation you need to contact the police. While not every situation requires extreme response like the cops, if you’re to the point where you feel like you need to remove fire arms from a home, that’s a serious problem.
At that point once the police are notified that individual should be removed from the home. If there is a fire arms violation they should be taken away from this person ASAP. This could lead to a slippery slope of course, there are always people who abuse the system. I could see someone calling the police and filing a false report to have someone’s fire arms taken away, that’s a problem.
In this case though someone thought months in advance something was wrong, and now a woman is dead and the husband in custody, another family devastated.
If you are a woman in an abusive relationship, please reach out to someone. s
